R.I.P. John Peakes, Professor Knowby from ‘Evil Dead 2,’ Has Passed Away

Professor Raymond Knowby is an integral character in the Evil Dead universe, as he’s the one who discovered both the Necronomicon and the Kandarian Dagger; he’s also responsible for bringing both objects to America. Of course, he’s the man who recorded the tape that Ash and friends play when they arrive at the cabin, kick-starting the horror saga that continues to this day.

Today we’re sad to report that Evil Dead 2 star John Peakes, who played Professor Raymond Knowby in the 1987 horror-comedy sequel, passed away this week. He was 83 years old.

iHorror: The 9 Greatest Deadites in Evil Dead History

If you’re anything like the minions here at iHorror, you’re missin’ “Ash vs Evil Dead” somethin’ fierce, but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy a little stroll down memory lane.

While we all love Bruce Campbell and can’t wait for Pablo and Kelly to once again fill our Sunday evenings with glorious splatstick, we thought we’d switch things up a bit.

Instead of Ash one-liners, groovy kills and buckets of blood, why not offer some love to those without whom the Ghostbeaters would have to go back to stocking shelves and peddling second-rate electronics?

Though it required some very difficult cuts, here they are in all their soul-sucking glory — the finest Deadites in Evil Dead history.

Movies with Mark: A Salute to Sam Raimi

If someone asked me which director I admired the most, it really wouldn’t be any of the big-shots like Hitchcock or Kubrick. It wouldn’t be Kurosawa or Godard. And even though he directed my favorite film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Mr. Spielberg doesn’t top my list, either (he’s close, though). The director to whom I give mad props to is Sam Raimi.

An Early Look at Bruce Campbell’s Short Trip to Hell

Click to enlarge image:

Bruce Campbell is an absolute treasure. He’s blessed us with his roles in cult classics like Maniac Cop, Bubba Ho-Tep, Xena: Warrior Princess, and his performance as Ash in the legendary Evil Dead franchise.

Campbell has effectively channeled his iconic status within the horror and fantasy genres into the creation of his own film festival.

The annual Bruce Campbell Film Festival started in Chicago in August, 2015. During its 2016 run, Campbell introduced us to a series of short films in a collection titled Short Trip to Hell.

For those of us who could not attend, Campbell is going to extend this trip by one more stop.

Working with Raven Banner Entertainment, Campbell will release the collection of shorts as one anthology film in 2017. The Raven Banner website offers this description;

“Featuring an original tale starring Bruce Campbell, with makeup & effects from Robert Kurtzman, Bruce is back, aligning with a new generation of filmmakers, to showcase the very best gruesome short films from the infernal regions of the netherworld.”
