While you wait for next year’s brand new movie Evil Dead Rise from Warner Bros./New Line and director Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground), headed to the big screen on April 21, 2023, Total Film (via Games Radar) has shared a brand new image from the movie today.The outlet has also shared some new insights from director Lee Cronin.“It’s firmly in the universe,” Cronin tells Total Film in the mag’s latest issue. “There’s a lot of fun callbacks, and there are direct lines to the past. But part of the goal of making this movie was to create something that could expand the Evil Dead universe further.”Cronin also teases, “There’s no Ash in this story and there’s no cabin in the woods, and they’re two iconic elements of what Evil Dead is. But the movie does include the book and an extraordinary amount of vicious, malevolent Deadites.”

"Evil Dead Rise" is something of a left-field movie, as most of us didn't even know it was in the works until it was well into filming — gotta love those sneaky, under-the-radar titles. So there's been an air of mystery around this thing. We know it's an in-universe sequel, but that it's also going to be radically different than previous "Evil Dead" entries just by virtue of being set in an urban environment, specifically a high rise.That's a far cry from the cabin in the woods feel of most of "Evil Dead" or even the medieval period setting of "Army of Darkness." So just what the heck is "Evil Dead Rise?" Is it a sequel? A side-quel? Something else entirely?While we still don't know all the answers, director Lee Cronin did go on record recently to set the stage (and horror fan expectations) in talking with Total Film Magazine.

The Evil Dead franchise returns to theaters next year with Evil Dead Rise, a brand new movie from Warner Bros./New Line and director Lee Cronin (The Hole in the Ground) that’s headed to the big screen on April 21, 2023. Out of BruceFest this week, producer Bruce Campbell has shared a new look at the movie today, introducing the franchise’s latest victims.
Campbell tweets, “For the Deadites who weren’t able to make it to BruceFest this year, I’m very excited to share this shot of the family from Evil Dead Rise. See them come together or be torn apart only in theaters April 21.” Check out Campbell’s tweet below.
